“What will happen and what is planned…”

LAUSD is the second largest school system in the nation, but for some time it has been under investigation. Recently the school board has named Michelle King the new Superintendent. She started her career in the district as a high school principal and later ascended to a senior administrator. Michelle King then replaced Ramon C. Cortines (former superintendent) on January 16, 2016. She is the first African- American women to become  superintendent in LAUSD.

Michelle King served as principal for eight years at Hamilton High School. She left quite an impression on the faculty. According to the interviews from reporters from NPR (National Public Radio), Michelle King made people feel something as if, “Everybody has this sense that she cares about them," said Fran Rose. A key asset that King holds is that she knows how the inside of the system works and that may help her make the correct decisions for the LAUSD.

Many people question whether she will make a great superintendent. They want a superintendent that will change the district. The people want a superintendent that will focus on students’ academic learning, the budget crisis, and the polarizing politics.
