"Winging it at Homecoming"

Not enough students were buying homecoming tickets weeks before the dance so leadership almost canceled it. Ultimately, leadership did not cancel it and hoped students would buy tickets at the door. They were correct! To everyone's surprise more than thirty students showed up at the dance.

“Different committees were made to do different parts not only for preparation but also organizing, to make sure everything was running smoothly to this point and even to this point there were things that were missing,” said leadership member Jonathan Mancillas. Breaking this up into different committees made it easier for leadership students to run things. Some of the struggles that were faced were a shortage of supplies and the challenge to get some things done on time. Although there were obstacles down the line, they were overcome. At the end of the day the Romans enjoyed it and had the greatest time of their lives.

As “Neon Lights Roman Nights” came to an end, the announcement for the homecoming court winners were ready to be named. The lucky senior who won the title of homecoming queen was Marisol Navarro. “I am extremely excited [it is] an overwhelming, an extraordinary feeling,” says Marisol. She was not expecting to win, but her expectations and doubts proved her wrong when she was announced as homecoming queen.

The excellent food and desserts provided by Mr. Davis and his cooking class was a mixture of teriyaki, pizza muffins, tarts and fudge squares. “The desserts were good and the decorations were creative,” said sophomore Nelson Menendez.  Aside from the food there were two special guests performing, KB and Fresco. They performed some of their new songs that brought the students to the dance floor. Even some students were lucky enough to receive some of their new released CD albums.

Some of the students thought that the $15 dollar cost for the tickets were just right and others felt the price wasn't worth it. Senior Jasmine Molina said, “The price of the dance was worth it because I would had been at home bored. The dance was really fun because students had a chance to express themselves through dance.”
