Water Polo Fought their Way to Playoffs

The Roman Boys’ Water Polo team had another successful season, as for the 8th year in a row,  they were league champions.  The team’s main goal was winning; in order to accomplish this, they practiced every day for about an hour.

”We hope[d] to improve team effort and communicate more effectively during our games,” said senior Geovani Warrick.

Coach Lee predicted that the team would go undefeated through the season and that the biggest challenge would be playoffs.  Team Captain, senior Roberto Menendez agreed and thought they would go unbeaten through the season.

This season, new players joined the team, including a couple of incoming freshmen.

“Geovani Warrick [was] a player who put in a lot of effort into the game,” Coach Lee said, along with Roberto Menendez, whom he considered the star player of the team.

The team held success throughout the season, winning most games. During their first game, the team gained victory against Chavez. The team played ten more games, going against various schools.  Leading up to playoffs, they won nearly all their games, only losing to LACES.  Lee and Menendez’s predictions proved accurate, as the team fought hard in a first round playoff loss to Taft High School.

Water polo is a challenging sport that requires strength and stamina to be exceptional at, but with enough practice and effort, one can have what they need to succeed. If you’d like to join, look for tryouts in early Fall 2015.

Coach Lee said, “Join us and have fun!”
